With an average of 674 sixes, the trend is looking like 700 sixes will be broken each tournament. This has now happened in 5 IPLs including the last 3 with a peak at 872 sixes in 2018. For a betting perspective, we would be looking for a bet of over 700 sixes in the 2020 IPL.

This shows an average of 4.75 centuries per year. The trend is for higher numbers in the later years with 5 being the minimum since 2015. The highest ever score still stands as Chris Gayles colossus 175 not out. If you are looking for pre-tournament bet bookmakers, like Betway India, will be offering bets on how many centuries are scored in the tournament. We’d be looking for a line of over 4.5 for a good bet.

This is a great one for the betting markets with the chance of some big odds if you can pick a match where there will be a big score. It’s also good for a pre-tournament bet on the highest score from any player. Excluding the one-off mega innings that saw Chirs Gayle hit 175 the usual top score is around the 120 mark. Gayles innings along with Brendan Callums 158 back in 2008 are the only 2 innings to go over the 150 mark.

Unlike others, there is no clear trend in the highest score and a marker of 120-135 would be in the expected range again this year.

Gayle hits 175 in 66 balls

IPL 2019 Stats

2019 was an epic IPL with Mumbai Indians winning again, the stats are interesting when we are considering betting for the upcoming IPL 2020. Here we will look at some more in-depth player stats to help us see the players to watch this year.

We will start with the batsman and then move on to the bowlers.

IPL 2019 batting stats

Top 10 run-scorers + (Average)

  1. D Warner – 692 (69.20)
  2. L Rahul 593 (52.91)
  3. Q De Kock 529 (35.27)
  4. S Dhawan 521 (34.73)
  5. A Russell 510 (56.67)
  6. C Gayle 490 (40.83)
  7. R Pant 488 (37.54)
  8. V Kohli 464 (33.14)
  9. S Iyer 463 (30.87)
  10. J Bairstow 445 (55.62)

What a performance from David Warner with the bat! Top of the overall runs scored and second in the highest batting averages to MS Dhoni who go an astonishing 83.20 with 416 runs in total.

Top 10 most boundaries (4s)

  1. S Dhawan  – 64 (DC)
  2. D Warner – 57 (SH)
  3. R Sharma – 52 (MI)
  4. L Rahul – 49 (KP)
  5. J Bairstow – 48 (SH)
  6. P Patel – 48 (RCB)
  7. King Kohli – 46 (RCB)
  8. A Rahane – 45 (RR)
  9. S Raina – 45 (CSK)
  10. C Gayle – 45 (KP)

I was surprised to see Chris Gayle only in 10th but he did only play 13 games compared to some others in the top 10 who played 16 & 17. With a better run, Gayle would have been right up there. If you were looking for a pre-tournament bet on this market then I would look for a team who should go all the way in the tournament.

Top 10 sixes

  1. A Russell – 52
  2. C Gayle – 34
  3. H Pandya – 27
  4. R Pant – 27
  5. A D Villiers – 26
  6. L Rahul – 25
  7. Q De Kock – 25
  8. M Dhoni – 23
  9. C Lynn – 22
  10. K Pollard – 22

This reads like a who’s who of the big hitters and is the only batting top 10 that David Warner does feature in. In the 2020 IPL, we would expect to see similar names topping this list again.

Most Fifties

  1. D Warner – 8
  2. L Rahul – 6
  3. S Dhawan – 5
  4. A D Villiers – 5
  5. C Gayle – 4
  6. A Russell – 4
  7. Q De Kock – 4
  8. C Lynn – 4
  9. MS Dhoni – 3
  10. S Raina – 3

Again the man of 2019 David Warner tops the list for the most fifties in the IPL.

Centuries

  1. D Warner – 1
  2. L Rahul – 1
  3. J Bairstow – 1
  4. S Samson – 1
  5. V Kohli – 1
  6. A Rahane – 1

2019 saw 6 centuries hit which is the second-highest in IPL history and was the 4th time there have been 6. If you were betting on this market then over 5.5 centuries would be a good bet in our opinion.

Highest strike rate

  1. Andre Russell 204
  2. Hardik Pandya 191
  3. Sam Curran 172
  4. Sunil Narine 166
  5. Moeen Ali 165

IPL 2019 bowling stats

Top 10 wicket-takers in 2019 IPL

  1. I Tahir – 26
  2. K Rabada – 25
  3. D Chahar – 22
  4. S Gopal – 20
  5. J Bumrah – 19
  6. K Ahmed – 19
  7. M Shami – 19
  8. Y Chahal – 18
  9. R Khan – 17
  10. H Singh – 16

Three players from the Chennai Super Kings make the top 10 list, the most from any team. They have a most excellent bowling attack and with these players maintained you would have to expect more to come from them this year too. From a bowling perspective, they are the team to watch.

Best bowling economy rates (Minimum 10 overs)

  1. R Khan 6.28 (60 overs)
  2. R Jadeja 6.35 (54 overs)
  3. R Chahar 6.55 (47 overs)
  4. J Bumrah 6.63 (61.4 overs)
  5. M Nabi 6.65 (29.1 overs)

We’ve missed out on the players with lower averages who only bowled a couple of overs as it is not a fair representation of the bowlers to include them.
