It has been announced today that the 2020 IPL will be delayed until the 15th of March. This means the tournament will run through May with the final being played around the last weekend of the month looking at the provisional start date.
This is a worry for cricket fans as the delay could end up being longer or the tournament called off all together depending on how it professes across India. A few days ago it was announced that all games would take place behind closed doors but it seems that would not have been enough to protect the players and the people involved in the event.
Across the world, the majority of sporting events now seem to be getting called off, including Englands test series with Sri Lanka. We have also seen Americans NBA announce that it is shutting down for at least 30 days after three players tested positive for the virus.
In England the Premier League has been massively affected too with Arsenal manager Micael Arteta testing positive along with Chelsea star Hudson Odi.
It is likely that we will see the majority of world sport shut down for a period over March and into April. After that it will depend on the spread of the virus in certain countries before they decide if the events can go ahead.
Whilst the Indian Premier League is only suspended, for now, it is a case of wait and see if it goes ahead in April. We will all have our fingers crossed that it will!
