New Points Rules
In 2020 the Big Bash altered the rules which will have a big impact on the game. Points are awarded as follows –
- 3 points for winning a match (up from the standard 2)
- A bonus point if the team batting 2nd is above 10 over the score of their opposition. If they are not then the fielding team is awarded the bonus point.

BBL Team Stats & Betting
Team by team coverage
Adelaide Strikers Stats
Jason Gillespie leads the strikers with Travis Head as his captain.
In last season’s BBL, the Strikers failed to shine and finished a lowly 7th, which Gillespie knows isn’t good enough. Nevertheless with a squad sprinkled with international players the great start they had last time out needs to be rekindled and they are more than capable of doing better this time around.
Team captain and international batsmen Travis Head are always dangerous at the crease. The left-hander is more often than not in devastating form and has the ability to quickly build the score. He is often in great form and is Adelaide’s all-time top scorer in the BBL.
Afghanistan’s captain Rashid Khan, will always cause problems for batsmen. The leg spinner has plenty of bowling experience gained from the IPL, CPL and now the Big Bash. Adelaide will look to Khan to build on their attack.
Brisbane Heat Stats
Brisbane Heat will no doubt want to forget last season’s BBL. 7 victories, as well as 7 losses, meant a below mid-table finish and Heat will know they can do much better this time around. Coach Ashley Noffke will want to enforce consistency and with captain Chris Lynn committing himself to the T20 cricket they will be thinking they can achieve more.
The heat will look to Chris Lynn to continue smashing the ball out of the ground. The right-handed batsman will lead from the front.
Aussie fast bowler James Pattinson has racked up some incredible BIg Bash stats already. 23 wickets in 19 matches, Pattinson puts the fear in any batter. He is certainly one bowler to watch this time around.
Hobart Hurricanes Stats
The Hurricanes were in outstanding form last season and finished top, only to lose out in the semi-finals. Coach Adam Griffith has a fantastic squad and with Aussie wicketkeeper Matthew Wade as his captain, the Hurricanes will certainly be looking to improve on last season.
D’Arcy Short forced his way back into the Australia T20 side after some impressive knocks. His average is approaching 47 in 34 matches which is solid.
James Faulkner will want to improve on last season however he is more than capable. Faulkner can prove to be an attacking threat for the Hurricanes.
Melbourne Renegades Stats
Current Big Bash champions the Melbourne Renegades will be looking to retain their title this season. When they needed their big players to step up they did and captain Aaron Finch will once again be looking for the same attitude.
Dan Christian is a great all-rounder, proving a massive success with both bat and ball. Christian put in some amazing performances to help the Renegades clinch last season’s title.
Highly-rated English bowler Richard Gleeson has been drafted in to add some pace and consistency to the Renegades attack.
Melbourne Stars Stats
Melbourne Stars had a fantastic season last time out and they managed to qualify through the group stage of the competition and run out eventual losers after a horror collapse. Consistency is all too important which Glenn Maxwell will be keen to improve on.
Travis Dean is the definition of consistency. A beautiful stroke coupled picking out the right shot at the right time. It’s little wonder he is rumoured to join the test team.
A newcomer to the BBL Englishman Pat Brown has steadily been building a reputation as a solid pace bowler, something the stars will have been keen to add after the departure of Dale Steyn.
Perth Scorchers Stats
Captain Mitchell Marsh looks like he might have a fight on his hands after many top scorchers players left. The big bash’s most successful side will really have their work cut out this time around.
Englishman Liam Livingstone has been added for this coming season. The all-rounder has bags of experience having played in the IPL and Pakistan Super League. Livingstone has a fantastic reputation as a big hitter and is a great addition to the Scorchers squad.
The Scorchers have been hit with several injuries to their squad. They will be hoping fast bowler Andrew Tye can recover quickly from his elbow injury.
Sydney Sixers Stats
Steve Smith returns for the Sixers after an eventful time. The Sixers look like they have kept most of their squad intact. Greg Shipped will want to improve on last season’s semi-final appearance and they are more than capable of doing so.
Opener Daniel Hughes is very capable of building a good score and quickly. The left-hander has bags of experience and has racked up an average of over 31 playing T20 cricket.
Nathan Lyon has become one of the biggest names in Australian cricket. The offspinner has been in sensational form for his country over recent seasons. Lyon has plenty of experience and 49 wickets in 40 T20 matches is a great return.

Sydney Thunder Stats
A somewhat of a mixed bag for the Thunder. There have been comings and goings to their squad including the likes of Alex Hales and Chris Morris. Only time will tell if coach Shane Bond has the right mix of players.
Usman Khawaja is as steady as they come. The top-order batsman has racked up an average of nearly 32 in 66 T20 matches.
Pat Cummins has been in blistering form for Australia and his T20 stats are equally impressive. If Cummins can stay injury-free, The Thunder will rely on him heavily to bring the all-important attack. 92 wickets in 77 T20 matches shows he is more than capable.
