There’s a doubleheader on Saturday and this for us is the pick of the two games. The two teams both have three wins so far, with the Thunder playing one more game. The main difference between the two is the net run rate where the Thunder are almost level with -0.029 and the Hobarts are -0.559.
We are writing this preview after watching the Hobart Hurricanes game with the Brisbane Heat. The Hurricanes batted poorly and set a low score only to see an excellent bowling performance get them close to the win. This should be a tight and interesting game and we are expecting to see some good value in the betting.

Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes – Latest Odds
The odds are tight in this one as we would expect.
Odds from Melbet
To win the match odds*
- Sydney Thunder 4/5
- Hobart Hurricanes 1/1
This is one of the tightest games we have seen so far in terms of how close the odds are. This is as close as we can get to level pegging! This is the kind of game we like as it offers a good deal of value to us if we can pick the right team to win.
The Sydney Thunder started the tournament well with two wins from their first two matches. Their form has really fallen apart since then and they have only managed one win in the next five. They have had a bit of misfortune in there with one game called off when they had started a chase well and one they lost in the super over against the high flying sixers.
In their last outing, they were comfortably beaten by the Melbourne Stars, not that there is any shame in that currently. Prior to that, they lost to Brisbane Heat in a rain-reduced overs match.
Where we think they are the strongest is with the bat with an excellent top order. On their day Khawaja, Hales, and Ferguson are a match for any bowling attack. They are well backed up by Gilkes, Morris and the excellent all-rounder Sams.
The Hobart hurricanes are an up and down team and are yet to put a run of any sorts together They lost last time out to the Brisbane Heat after only getting 126/9 from their 20. They then started well with the ball against the top order but struggled against the middle order where a very impressive inning from Ben Cutting brought the win home for the Heat.
Their best win has been in the opening match against the Sydney Sixers, which looks better based on the Sixers recent form. Other than that they have only managed to beat the teams lower down the league, the Melbourne Renegades who everyone beats and the Perth Scorchers who sit in sixth at the time of writing.

To hit a six odds*
Today sees some early value in these betting markets!
Latest Odds
- Alex Hales 11/10
- Ben McDermott 11/10
- Callum Ferguson 11/10
- David Miller 11/10
- Usman Khawaja 5/4
- Caleb Jewell 9/4
Usually, these prices are a lot higher and we’d expect them to come down before the match starts, especially once the teams are announced. With some players heading off for the India v Australia one day series there’s speculation about who will start – this is what drives the odds higher.
To take over 1.5 wickets*
This is a new market for our tips post and caught our eye today. We have seen a number of bowlers take 2+ wickets this tournament and can see some value here.
Latest odds*
- Daniel Sams 13/8
- Chris Morris 7/4
- Riley Meredith 7/4
- Nathan Ellis 2/1
- Qais Ahmad 2/1
- Arjun Nair 5/2
- Jonathan Cook 5/2
Daniel Sams is a correct favourite in this market as he has been bowling well and taking regular wickets. Ahamd at 2/1 has also caught our eye along with the 5/2 on Arjun Nair.

Thunder v Hurricanes – Betting Tips
This looks a great game to bet on!
Tip 1 – 1xBet – Sydney Thunder to win 4/5
As covered in our preview the Thunder has been dipping in form but in this game, we are backing them to win. They have been close in a number of matches and their top order is more than capable of dispatching the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes haven’t really looked great this tournament and one of their stars, D’Arcy Short has left to join the Australian one day team. This leaves the weaker and they should the there for the taking if the Thunder can get in their stride.
Tip 2 – 10Cric – Sams over 1.5 wickets 13/8, Chris Morris over 1.5 wickets 7/4
This is a double bet where we are placing 2 singles on the match. If either bowler takes over 1.5 wickets then we will be in a profit. If they both do then both bets will win. These look good value odds to us for this game.
Tip 3 – Betway India – #BetYourWay – Khawaja, Wade, and Hales all to score over 25 runs 11/1
This is at higher odds than our usual betting tips but it is a good bet for this. If, as we predict, Sydney Thunder win the match then these players will probably get some runs. All three at quality batsman and odds of 11/2 looks good for small stakes pick.
