To win the match odds*

  • Melbourne Stars 8/11
  • Sydney Thunder 21/20

We are not sure what happened to the Stars last time out as that is the worst performance we have seen from them all season. They were expected to win that match and walk into the final. There is a trend that when Stoinis doesn’t start well the rest of the team struggle and this happened again against the Sixers.

Melbourne Stars form

After securing qualification as the top team for the finals the form of the Stars really dipped. They managed to win one from their last four games including the defeat to the Sixers. They didn’t have much to play for but we would have expected them to play better. It’s always good to keep a winning run going and that showed last game out.

Before the loss to the Sixers, there was another all-out loss to Brisbane Heat who got them all out for 117. In this game, they were chasing a respectable 185 but could not cope with the Heats bowling attack. This was another day where Stoinis didn’t perform to his maximum getting just 17 runs. Glen Maxwell, who had performed well earlier in the tournament, struggled in these last two games as well. He managed just one against the Heat followed by 16 against the Sixers.

Earlier in the tournament it had been Maxwell who’s performances had aided them to a couple of wins at times where they were struggling. He seemed to come in and steady the board before hitting out to finish the game off.

For the Stars to get a win you would expect a decent inning would be needed from Stoinis or Maxwell.

Head to head

Earlier in the tournament, the Stars and Thunder met twice, as normal, and the Stars won both games.

They both had a very similar flow with the Thunder batting first and posting scores fo 142 & 145. The Melbourne Stars then chased the score down, once with two balls to spare and once with thirteen balls to spare. In both games, the wicket looked like it needs a score of 170-180 to be considered decent. They fell short and did a good job to keep it close.

In the first game, it was Stars captain who came into steady things up when they were looking in trouble. In the second game, Stoinis and Larkin built a score to win without trying to be explosive.

Thunder form

In the league stage, Sydney Thunder was all over the place. They only managed to win back to back games once, in their first two games. They then turned it around when it came to the end of the league.

They had a final game shoot out against the Perth Scorchers. They won this with just two balls to spare on the D/L method sending them into the playoffs. This was the start of their winning run which has to lead them to the Knock out game.

They then went on to thrash the Hurricanes, scoring 197 from their 20 overs. They then bowled the Hurricanes out for 143. Next up they dispatched the Strikers taking 9 wickets in their chase.

Stars v Thunder Knock Out Tips

We have three tips for this match covering three different markets.

Betting predictions for Stars v Sydney Thunder BBL KO 6.2.20

Tip 1 – 22bet – Thunder to win 21/20

Whilst there is an advantage to the Stars with the game being at the MCG, it is the Thunder who come into this match as the form team. They have good strength in the opening order but are particularly strong with the ball.

We have seen them take nine wickets and over in the last three matches. Daniel Sams has been the tournaments top bowler and has just been named in the team of the tournament.

Tip 2 – Betway BetYourWay  – Thunder win, Khawaja exactly one six, Sams over 1.5 wickets 5/1

I’m going with my predictions for the game bundled up into one #Betyourway bet from Betway (Find the Betway India bonus code here). This makes these three selections into one bet and they all need to land in order for the bet to win.

My betting tip for the match

*Please only bet what you can afford to lose.

Tip 3 – To hit a six  – Stoinis 9/10, Hales 17/20, Khawaja 9/4

We’ve been doing well in this market all tournament. The odds reflect the longer boundary at the MCG but we have some form players and big hitters selected here. Khawaja looks good value as he’s not the biggest hitter but gets 1 six in most innings.
