Our match preview
Monday 21st September sees 2019’s last-place Royal Challengers take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Stadium.
As fans, we’ve all waited with much anticipation for the IPL and this promises to be a mouth-watering fixture in this year’s tournament.
Looking at last years IPL, there was not much really to choose between these two teams. Both struggled with consistency and although the Sunrisers finished 4th, they only took one more point over the Challengers.
As expected the weather looks favourable and although the teams will play in an empty stadium the action will no doubt live up to expectations.

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Royal Challengers Betting Tips
Latest Odds and Form
With it being the first game for each team for this years IPL, it is impossible to study any form guide and see how individuals have been performing. This will change as the tournament progresses.
To win the match odds*
- Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.72
- Royal Challengers 2.05
It’s clear to see who the bookmakers favour. Their squad is impressive. Big-hitting Englishman Jonny Bairstow has been in decent form and Australian David Warner continues to add experience.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Form
Basing our review on 2019, the Sunrisers were very useful. If they had focussed on being more consistent their fortunes could have greatly improved. They spent ₹2.2 crores bringing in Jonny Bairstow; presumably to add more firepower with the bat.
After losing their opening match, the Sunrisers went on to win 3 in a row and the fans started to wet their lips. Unfortunately, they lost their 5th match to the impressive Mumbai Indians; who went on to be champions. At that point, the consistency failed and successive losses interrupted the flow of the team.
The 2019 Indian Premier League was full of highs for the Sunrisers. Bairstow and Warner recorded most half and full centuries in an IPL tournament whilst Khaleel Ahmed had the best bowling strike rate.
There will always be optimism with the Sunrisers Hyderabad and they could be the team to watch this year.
Royal Challengers Form
The challengers, as a team, were widely tipped to struggle at the 2019 IPL and the pundits were correct. The bowling line up failed to produce and captain Virat Kohli was criticised by fellow professionals for his methods.
Kohli will undoubtedly want to prove the doubters wrong in 2020. The Challengers have added some experience to their squad this year, including Aaron Finch. The Australian holds two T20 international records for the highest individual score of 172 and 156; showing his worth with the bat. The IPL stage could be perfect for him.
The Royal Challengers will certainly not have liked finishing bottom of the pile in 2019 and they will hope for better fortunes in the UAE this time around.
Head to Head
True to recent form the Sunrisers have a slight advantage when it comes to past results between the two teams. They have played each other 13 times with the Sunrisers winning 7 and the Challengers finding victory on 5 occasions. There was also no result for one match.
A new tournament brings new expectations and head to head results from years gone by can mean nothing. As we have eluded to the Royal Challengers Bangalore will be looking to make up for poor results and start this years IPL with a victory.
Top team batsman odds*
Here are the latest odds for the top batsman of each team;
Sunrisers Hyderabad Batsman odds
David Warner 5.50
Jonny Bairstow 6.50
Kane Williamson 9.00
Abhishek Sharma 11.00
Virat Singh 11.00
Looking at the odds here, Bairstow and Warner would be a great option. Both are big scorers and both have been in decent form over the summer.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Batsman odds
V Kohli 5.50
AB de Villiers 7.00
AJ Finch 7.50
PA Patel 9.00
Devdutt Padikkal 11.00
The prices here suggest what the bookmakers think in regards to the Challengers chances. Kohli will lead the charge, it’s up to his teammates to provide some assistance at the crease.

Betting Tips
Tip 1 – 10cric – Winner Match Sixes, Sunrisers Hyderabad 2.10
With some big hitters, we think there is real value with this bet. Jonny Bairstow has been in great form recently and will certainly bring his power to this seasons IPL.
Tip 2 – Betway – Jonny Bairstow to hit a six 1.61
A great value bet, especially if the Sunrisers are chasing a score. We’re quite confident Bairstow will hit several sixes, never mind just the one.
Tip 3 – Betway – Total runs in the highest scoring over, over 19.5
The first game of this years IPL for both sides. There is plenty of ability on show and if one team is chasing down a score we thing over 19.5 runs is more than achievable for many of the batsmen in this match.
