Fridays BBL games see the Melbourne Renegades take on the Sydney Thunder. The Thunder have already played and won their first game with a decent knock of 170/6 for their 20 overs. They then bowled out Brisbane Heat for 143 in 19.2 overs.
This looks set to be an excellent game with both teams currently 6/1 to win the tournament.
We will look over some selected odds, our 3 betting tips and some stats and form for each team.
Renegades v Thunder – Latest Betting Odds
Last years champions have a slight edge in the betting as you would expect coming into their first game.
To win the match odds*
- Melbourne Renegades 8/11
- Sydney Thunder 21/20
In general, we find games in the BBL are always tight in odds with no massive favourites over 20 overs. There looks to be some value in Sydney Thunder at odds on after a decent performance in the first match.
Total wickets in the match odds*
- Over 11.4 4/5
- Under 11.5 9/10
Both are odds on so not a great deal of value. The line seems to be set at 11.5 for most matches and I think the over is the best bet of the two. This will not be appearing in our own betting tips for this matches we don’t feel the value is enough at 9/10.
To hit a 6 odds*
- Arron Finch 4/7
- Shaun Mash 4/5
- Alex Hales 9/10
- Callum Ferguson 11/10
- Tom Cooper 5/4
- Usman Khawaja 5/4
- Alex Ross 11/8
- Marcus Harris 6/5
- Sam Harper 6/4
There is a wide range of players in the mix for the market on this match and potentially we could see a few winners.
Ales Hales certainly gets our attention here at almost even money. The has 233 sixes in 235 career T20 matches and is a solid prospect for this market.

Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Thunder Betting Tips
3 Tips for this game covering various bookmakers to get the best price.
Tip 1 – To hit a six – Callum Ferguson 11/10 & Alex Hales 9/10
This is 2 separate bets from the same market and both can win! As it is a related market you cannot place a double bet on this one.
As mentioned above Alex Hales averages 0.97 sixes per T20 game. That is some career record and we like the odds at 9/10 for him to hit one.
Callum Ferguson to hit a 6 at 11/10 is the best value bet we have seen for this match. Whist his career T20 stats show an average of around .67 sixes pre-match its last season’s form that caught our eye. He’s already hit 3 sixes in his opening match knock of 73 not out and looks in fine form with the bat. Here is in the Golden Cap that he hates!
He was the 4th highest scorer last year including a knock of 113 not out. He hit an impressive 14 sixes in 14 matches. We are expecting to see him come into this match with a dominant display of batting and full of confidence. He could be a good bet for the tournament tops career if he gets in the grove early.

Tip 2 – Hales, Finch & Ferguson to score over 30.5 runs each 8/1
This is a #Betyourway market from Betway Sports. It can only be found on the Betway site.
At 8/1 this is one of the anger shot bets that we predict. All these players are capable of getting quick runs and scoring 30+ each. For the bet to win each player needs to score over 30 if one does not then the bet loses.
We would advise a smaller stake for this bet as it is at longer odds and carries more risk.
Tip 3 – Sydney Thunder to win the match 11/10
After winning two days ago Thunder will be in a confident mood. Whilst the Renegades were last years winners the odds of 11/10 on the Thunder are too good to turn down.
