Middlesex v Surrey: Are Surrey the worthy favourites for the opening match? We don’t think so!

Match: Middlesex v Surrey

Date: 10th June 2021

Tournament: T20 Vitality Blast

Stadium: Lords, England

Trends & Recent Form

This is the first game of the T20 blast for both teams so we will consider the stats from the last tournament as well as the form of the available players. England is currently playing New Zealand in a test so the main international will be missing for now. There are, however, still bags and bags of talent on display.

Latest stats and trends
  • Middlesex was relatively poor in the shorted T20 blast last summer and will be looking for better this year. Captain Eoin Morgan will be a crucial play for the side.
  • Despite only winning 3 from 9 completed matches Middlesex still managed to score an average of 180 runs and conceded 176. They finished with a respectable net run rate of -0.296.
  • They have added well to the team this year with Chris Green and Mujeeb Ur Rahman adding some quality and depth to the side. With the quick-fire games in the Blast, these signing should be enough to help them qualify this year.
  • The addition of overseas spinners will add to the last season’s top bowlers for the team, Steven Finn (14 wickets)  and Tom Help (12 wickets).
  • We are predicting they will finish 2nd or 3rd in their group and make the qualifying rounds.

Latest stats and trends
  • Surrey has a host of big names in their square for the T20 Blast and is one of the favorites to win the event. They topped the group last year and could easily do that again in 2021.
  • They have top performers from last year’s Blast ready to go again – Evans who scored 363 runs and Moriarty who was the 2nd highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets overall, in slightly fewer matches than this year’s event.
  • After establishing his credentials at last year’s Blast, Will Jacks is our player to watch this year. 309 runs and 13 wicket was a great return for the off-spinner and he will be looking to build on that again. At 22 this year’s T20 World Cup may be in his sights with a big performance across the Blast.
  • In the T20 format, Surrey has won 4 of their last 5 matches, with the only loss coming in last year’s final.

Match Prediction & Tips

Match Prediction: Middlesex to win at 13/8*

For the Cricketics team, Sussex is too short at 1/2. While they did get to the final last year and have a strong squad the first round of matches can always throw up some random results. Middlesex at 13/8 offers much more value in the betting markets than 1/2 on Sussex.

Predicted scores if batting first

Middlesex 200+

Sussex 180+

We have an extra pick for this match, there are over 50 markets on offer for the Vitality Blast matches.
