India v West Indies ODI Preview

The ODI series is tied at 1-1, now is the time for an India win to secure the series! Come on India!

After a successful 2-1 T20 series win over the West Indies, we now move on to a 3 match One Day series starting on the 15th of December. In the last T20, we were on fire scoring a massive 240 runs from just 20 overs and winning comprehensively. We’d expect that trend to continue although we do have to consider how the West Indies won one of the T20 series. In our preview, we will cover the latest betting odds plus our 3 top tips for the match!

India v west Indies ODI betting tips - 3rd match-2

India V West Indies – One Day Match Three Odds & Tips

To start we have some selected odds for the first match.

Match Winner

  • India 2/7
  • West Indies 14/5

Odds correct at time of writing and taken from 22bet India.

The shock defeat int he first match saw India’s odds rise for the last match but they have come back down again. After India’s triumphant performance in the last match, their odds are back down at 2/7 – not anything we would like to back with those low returns, its not worth the risk!

Other markets

To win the toss!

  • India 9/10
  • West Indies 9/10

We have no idea why anyone would want to bet in this market but it is on offer if you do!

Standard tips

Here are our main tips for this match. Including the best odds from our selection of Indian betting sites.

Tip 1 – West Indies fall of the first wicket – under 26.5 score 5/6

This bet won in the first match and we are happy to take it again for the third match at these odds.

As mentioned in the form guide below the West Indies have struggled in recent one-day matches. This goes back to the start of the summer and the Cricket World Cup in England. They managed a poor 1 win from 9 and lost 7.

They have started most games poorly and after the recent T20, we would expect India to start strongly again. Odds are from Betway –

Tip 2 – Over 14.5 sixes on the match 3/5

This one caught our eye even though it is a short odds of 3/5. When we consider the recent stats in this series then this bet really stands out. In the last game, there were a total of 28 sixes in the match due to the high run chase from the West Indies.

We’d expect more fireworks in this game and 15 sixes seems a reasonable amount to get across both teams.

This is with Indian bookmaker 22bet.

#BetYourWay Tips

As usual, we will be having 3 tips including 2 from the Betyourway markets from Betway Sports. This market allows you to bet on multiple events in the same game and is our favourite way to bet on cricket.

We are just waiting for these to be priced up and then we will add our tips here

Tip 1 – India opening partnership to score 50+ runs 11/8

At just over evens this looks excellent value for money from Betway. In the last match, the openers knocked a massive 227 before the first wicket fell. With Sharma in that kind of form, this looks good odds to be repeated again in this match.

An alternative to this market is to back India to have the highest opening partnership. This is at considerably lower odds of 4/9 but carries less risk in theory. We felt the odds for the over 50 on the owners was considerably better value.

Match Preview

Our most recent ODI series was also against the West Indies which we won 2-0 with one match void due to the weather. All 3 matches were erected by the weather with the D/L method used to decide the winner.

Recent results

  • 8-8-19 – ODI, match void due to weather
  • 11-8-19 – ODI, India 279/7 in 50 overs, won by 56 runs
  • 14-8-19 – ODI India won by 6 wickets with 15 balls remaining

Based on the current form of the India team we would expect to see another series win of either 2-1 or more likely 3-0.

Current world rankings

  • India 2nd 122 points
  • West Indies 9th 78 points

Again the one-day international rankings show the power of India over the West Indies in this format of the game. India re just 3 points off England who sit in the top spot. West Indies are sitting in 9th below Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

When looking into the form the best place to look is the recent ODI ICC World Cup. You can see the difference in the form of the 2 teams.

In the group stages, India won 7 of their 9 matches losing just 1, with 1 game called off for the English weather.

West Indies won just 2 of their 9 games with 6 defeats and 1 no result due to the weather.

When we look at the 2 matches they won we can see how badly they played! One of the wins was against Afganistan who failed to win a single match. The other was against Pakistan who batted appallingly in that game and managed to get themselves all out for a very poor 105 runs.

When India and the West Indies met India clocked up 268/7 from their 50 overs and then skittled the Windies out for just 143 runs.
