On Friday the 10th of January India takes on Sri Lanka in the third T20 match of the series. India leads 1-0 as the first game was abandoned due to rain. We would expect to see another comfortable India victory here to win the series before most of the players get ready to take on Australia in an ODI series starting on Tuesday.
In our preview, we will cover the latest odds and form guide plus our top 3 betting tips for each match. Want to get straight to the tips? See our India v Sri Lanka T20 tips here.
India v Sri Lanka T20 – Latest Odds
We have a selection of odds for the second test taken from 10 Cric*
To win the match odds*
- India 1/5
- Sri Lanka 100/30
As mentioned it is no surprise to see India as the favourites. For us, odds of 1/5 for the win are too low to back them at. We would never bet against India but we think Sri Lanka would be better value in this market.
Currently, India sits 5th in the T20 World Rankings with Sri Lanka in 7th, 20 points behind. India has played more qualifying matches than any other team on the list. Our previous T20 opponents, the West Indies, sit 10th and offered us a good challenge that we overcame well.
India’s recent form
In our last 2 T20 series we have won both 2-1 against West Indies and Bangladesh. We have knocked over 200 runs in 2 of those six tests.
Averages from the last 6 T20 matches
- Average runs scored – 182.5
- Average wickets lost – 4.5
- Average opponents runs – 167.3
- Average wickets taken – 5.6
As you can see from India’s averages we have been better with both bat and ball as you would expect. The average runs conceded is boosted by a colossal effort from the Windies to hit 207 in 20 overs. If you take that game out the average drops to 153 runs conceded. These stats are effected by who bats first.
Predicted scores
Our predicted scores come from data we compile on previous games and are a range of scores using averages and highest and lowest ranges.
If India bat first
India 175-195 runs for 4-6 wickets
Sri Lanka 145-165 runs for 5-7 wickets
If Sri Lanka bat first
Sri Lanka
150-170 runs for 5-7 wickets
India to win the chase with 2-3 overs to spare for 3-5 wickets
To hit a six odds*
This is one of our favourite markets and has been very profitable for us when betting on Australia’s Big Bash. To win your bet here you just need the player or players you select to hit one six as a minimum, any others are just a bonus!
- KL Rahul 4/9
- Rishabh Pant 8/13
- Viral Kohli 8/13
- Shreyas Iyer 4/5
- Kusal Perera 17/20
- Shikhar Dhawan 11/10
- Others at 6/5 +
Others at 6/4+
Usually, we have seen better value in these markets at T20 events. This does not hold any value for us at 3/5 from so many players. This is because India is expected to win comfortably in the match. If we had to pick the KL Rahul would be our selection. He has one of the highest T20 averages and has hit 60 sixes in 34 matches. As we have said though 4/9 does not offer and value for us.
Man of the match odds*
This is a tricky market but the odds always catch our eye. Kohli is always going to be the favourite in this market!
- Kohli 5/1
- KL Rahul 11/2
- Dhawan 8/1
- Bumrah 11/1
Others available 11/1+
There is a couple of players who have caught our eye in this market. They are KL Rahul at 11/2 and Chahal at 12/1. Chahal would probably have more chance if Sri Lanka bat first and India keep them low and take wickets. Rahul would be our pick if India bat first, whilst Kohli will be more popular Rahul is capable of getting a big score against this Sri Lanka attack.
India v Sri Lanka – 3rd T20 Betting Tips
Here we have our top 3 tips for betting on this T20 match.
Tip 1 – Betway – India highest opening partnership and highest score after 6 overs 8/13
This is a great value bet as India usually start matches strongly. We have an excellent top order and KL Rahul is in fine form with the bat.
Tip 2 – 10 Cric – Total wickets in the match under 12.5 5/6
This market has an unders and overs side and both are at 5/6. The averages we have posted in the preview show that there are usually 9-10 wickets in India’s games. Again this can depend on who bats first and we would be more confident waiting for the toss to place this bet.
In the last 5 India T20s, only one game has gone over the 12.5 wickets and that was the against Bangladesh where we bowled them all out chasing 174/5. Other than that the average has been 9 wickets. The line seems to always be set at 12.5 wickets in a match for all T20 matches with the odds set at a very similar level to this today.
Tip 3 – 10 Cric – KL Rahul over 50 runs 2/1
This is excellent odds for, as previously mentioned, one of the top batsman in T20 cricket. He’s a player who is in fine form and will want to push on to take the top spot from Babar Azam as the official top T20 batsman in the world. With another T20 series in New Zealand after this one and the T20 International World Cup later in the year, this could be his chance to take the title!
