After an opening match wins the Sixers are back to take on the Hurricanes in their first match of BBL 9. This looks set to be a very interesting match with a solid performance from the Sixers in the opening matchup against last years top scorer D’Arcy Short. Again the Sydney Sixers are not the favourites to win the match but that does not mean they should be written off.
Here we have selected odds for the game as part of our preview along with our betting tips on this match. You can get to our Hurricanes v Sixers betting tips here.
Hurricanes v Sixers – Latest Betting Odds
To win the match odds*
- Hobart Hurricanes 5/6
- Sydney Sixers 11/10
The Hurricanes look a worthy favourite on paper in this match when you compare the two teams. They have the stronger of the 2 line ups but I was impressed with the Sixers in their opening match. This will be a tough match to call but if Short is in his usual Big Bash form them the Hurricanes should be the winners of this match.
Total wickets in the match odds*
- Over 11.5 4/5
- Under 11.5 9/10
As usual in this market there is not much value, this is mainly because we do not have enough stats to look at yet. We are following this market as once all the teams have played a couple of games we can start to look at stats and trends. This market will be the focus of our tips later in January when we are expecting to find some real value.
To hit a six odds*
- Ben McDemott4/5
- D’Arcy Short 9/10
- David Miller 9/10
- George Bailey 5/4
- Daniel Hughes 6/4
- James Vince 6/4
- Josh Philippe 6/4
- Moises Henriques 7/4
- Caleb Jewell 2/1
- Jordan Silk 2/1
We were really surprised to see some solid odds in there for this match as we were expecting them to be lower! There are a few players in there who’d be good value – read on for our tips to find out which two players we are backing to hit at least one six.
If you are betting on this market then check the team news first. Players like Jordan Silk at 2/1 look like tempting odds but there’s no guarantee that he will bat. This is what makes the odds higher.

Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Sixers Betting Tips
We have 3 Tips for Friday’s match! These are selected because of the value odds.
Tip 1 – Hobart Hurricanes to win 5/6
So far we’ve avoided backing teams at odds on but for us, this game looks like a Hurricanes win. The 5/6 odds are enough to get our attention and we’d expect them to come out all guns blazing as the saying goes. They’ve added the experience of David Miller to the middle order and that should help spread the runs through this team.
They are defiantly capable of posting a big score if they bat first, or chasing a big score if they bat second. Although they have a couple of players missing for international duty they still have a solid looking top 5 – if they go with their expected line up. This could be a game they really dominate.
Odds from 10 Cric
Tip 2 – D’Arcy Short – Over 26.5 runs 9/10 or To hit a six 9/10
For the last 2 Big Bash Leagues D’Arcy Short has been the player of the tournament and we are expecting him to be in the running again this year. He may not have his usual opener alongside him but that should not deter him. We were very surprised to see hit line at 26.5 for total runs as this is really achievable for him.
To hit a six – These odds are CRAZY! 9/10 WOW! In the Big Bash, he’s played 35 innings and hit 58 sixes. We are yet to see such good value in this market in BBL9.
Tip 3 – Hurricanes to hit the most sixes 5/6
With the strength of the Hurricanes top 5 batsmen, this looks great odds. There are some big hitters alongside Short and if the match goes as we expect this should be a solid bet for the match. Slightly odds on as are most markets with 2 outcomes in the BBL.
