Latest Odds & Form

As mentioned above the Capitals are the clear favourites for this game. Here are the latest odds for the match (Indian bookmakers only)

  • Dehli Capitals 3/4
  • Kings XI Punjab 21/20

We would expect to see the capitals at these sort of odds. They have excellent strength in depth and an IPL pedigree. They have some quality players throughout the team with Alex Carey noted as one of the overseas players to watch.

Lead by Indias KL Rahul the 21/20 on them to open with a win could seem generous. There is a quality about this team and it will be worth watching to see if, at 40, Chris Gayle still has some fireworks in his batting against the inevitable spin of this year’s tournament.

Dehli Capitals form

The Capitals ended the league stage last year in 3rd, level in points with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. They were eventually knocked out by the Super Kings one game short of the final.

Their form throughout the 2019 tournament will give their backers and fans a lot of hope for this season. At this year’s auction, they bought well picking up Marcus Stoinis who out in a massive performance in the Big Bash ending as the top run-scorer with 705 runs.

He also topped the charts for the most sixes and the most fours. It will be interesting to see where he is played as the Melbourne Stars got the most out of him higher up the order after he relinquished his bowling duties.

Another signing at the auction that caught our eye was fellow Aussie, Alex Carey. The wicket-keeper and batsman was another who performed well at the big bash and is an excellent player to smash some quick runs in the middle order.

Head to head

Last IPL these two teams met twice with both teams taking one win. The scores were as follows –

01/04/19

KXIP 166/9 (20)

DC 152 (19.2)

KXIP won by 14 runs

20/04/19

KXIP 163/7 (20)

DC 166/5 (19.4)

DC win by 5 wickets with 2 balls remaining

KXIP form

Last IPL the league was very tight and although KXIP had the same number of points as 4th place they were undone by their very poor net run rate. This lead to them finishing 6 and leaving the competition at the group stages.

Last year they recorded 6 wins and 8 loses. The alarming thing was their massive drop in form towards the end of the tournament losing 4 of their last 5. They only needed 1 win from the 4 to get to the knock out stages but they really failed to deliver when it mattered.

Glenn Maxwell could star for the Kings XI Punjab

I do feel they strengthened well in this year’s auction bringing in big priced Aussie Glenn Maxwell. In last years Big Bash Maxwell was on fire for the Melbourne Stars. On a couple of occasions, he single-handedly saved their winnings and won matches. He seems to be a play who thrives when the pressure is on him.

As a big-hitting all-rounder, he could be key to getting their NRR up this season. At 10.75 Crore he needs to be a star performer in this team.

Other solid acquisitions include saluting bowler Sheldon Cotterill and English bowler Chris Jordan.

We will have 3 tips in total for this match, once we have more markets!

DC x KXIP betting tips

Tip 1 – Betway – Kings XI Punjab to win 21/20* – LOST (so close)

At 21/20 KXIP look a good value bet for the first round of IPL matches. They have quality in the team and can pose the Capitals some problems. There’s a key factor in none of the players who have played in the England v Australia matches will be playing.

They will all have to quarantine before they play. Based on my predicted starting 11s for each tea, from the available players, KXIP certainly looks capable of getting a win here.

Tip 2 – KL Rahul man of the match* – LOST

The captain, the main batsman and a hero of Indian cricket. Here we are going for KL Rahul to get the Kings XI off to a winning start and be the star man. He has a great record in the IPL as well as T20 cricket, we think KXIP could have a big IPL this year and be close to lifting the trophy at the end.

Tip 3 – Betway – #Betyourway Gayle & KL Rahul to both hit a six 4/6 – LOST

What a bet, what odds! 4/6 for both player to hit at least 1 six over the rope. Looks great value on paper!

*Please only bet what you can afford to lose. Odds were correct at time of writing and subject to change.
