The Super King start as favorites for this one, but we feel they are a little short. Their bowling performance against the Royals last time left a lot to be desired at times as Samson, Smith, and number 9 Jofra Archer!

Chennai Super Kings form

The super Kings started well with a win over the Mumbai Indians in the opening game of the tournament (Match stats here). It was a good start to the tournament for them to avenge the defeat from last year’s final. Next up was a seemingly easier looking fixture against the Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals were batting first and lost the early wicket of Jaiswal for just 6 runs. Then Sanju Samson came in and changed the game! He absolutely smashed it with 74 runs from 32 balls including NINE sixes! He was well supported by Steve Smith who was a little steadier building his 69 from 47 balls before falling to Sam Curran’s bowling.

After this, the wickets fell quite quickly until number 9 Jofra Archer stepped up. We were not expecting much from number 9, but he certainly delivered. Archer managed 27 runs off just 8 balls including 4 sixes to push the Royals to a total of 216/7. Sam Curran was the pick of the Super Kings bowlers with 3/33 from his 4 overs. Ngidi, who was the top bowler against the Indians, ended with horrific figures of 56/1 off 4 – 14 runs an over on average.

The Super Kings made a valiant effort with the bat with Faf du Plessis being the top batsman again with 72 from 37 balls. Sam Current had a quickfire 17 from 6 but the Super Kings could not quite make the runs and finished with 200/6 from 20 overs.

Top batsman so far – Faf du Plessis 130 runs

Top bowler so far – Sam Curran 4 wickets

Dehli Capitals form

Whilst the Super Kings have played 3 games the Capitals are on game 2.

What a game their first game was! The Capitals ended the winners from a super over, one of the most memorable in a while with the Kings XI only getting 2/2 from theirs!

The Capitals batted first and got off to a very poor start. They lost Shaw, Dhawan, and Hetmyer early, not of them got into double figures. Then Iyer and Pant got in and both managed to score in the 30s to help build the innings. Next up was one of our favourite Aussies, Marcus Stoinis. He should be batting higher than sixth. In this year’s Big Bash he dropped his bowling duties to be an opener and was the star of the tournament. Here he hit an impressive 52 from 21 before being run out.

After this, the Capitals made a total of 157/8, not a massive score but a defendable one.

They then delivered an excellent bowling performance with a good run of taking wickets to tie the game. Stoinis picked up 2 wickets to take the man of the match award. In the super over the Kings XI collapsed getting just 2/2, it was inevitable that the Capitals would win from there. They finished 3/0 from 2 balls. (Full KXIP v DC stats here)

Top batsman so far – Marcus Stoinis 53 runs

Top bowler so far – Ravichandran Ashwin 2 wickets

Top team batsman odds*

Who will be the top batsman for the team?

CSK Batsmen latest odds

  • du Plessis 3/1
  • S Watson 3/1
  • A Rayudu 15/4
  • M Vijay 15/4
  • N Jagadeesan 11/2
  • MS Dhoni 15/2
  • Others 8/1+

After the first two games, it is no surprise to see Faf at the top of this list. It is a really tight market on this match today.

DC top batsman odds

  • S Dhawan 11/4
  • A Rahane 100/30
  • P Shaw 7/2
  • A Carey 4/1
  • R Pant 4/1
  • R Pant 4/1
  • S Hatmyer 4/1
  • S Iyer 4/1
  • M Stoinis 11/2

This is about as close a market as we will see in IPL betting. The bookmakers cannot call who the winner will be in this market so have played safe and covered lots of players at lower odds. Stoinis, after being top in the first game, catches the eye at 11/2 other than that this is a market to be left alone.

Latest odds*

  • S Watson 4/6
  • du Plessis 5/6
  • S Dhawan 4/5
  • P Shaw 5/6

Here we would love to see more players covered for this match but only 4 are on offer. The odds are tempting of Faf after his performances so far.

Betting Tips

CSK v DC betting tips

Tip 1 – bet365 – Faf du Plessis over 0.5 Sixes 5/6

Great odds on offer here. Faf has hit seven sixes so far this tournament and is the top batsman for the Super Kings. He’s a player of experience who is in good form. This looks excellent value to us.

Tip 2 – Betway – #Betyourway – Stoinis to take a wicket and hit a six 5/2

Personally, I think Betway have lost their mind with these odds! In their first match, Stonis hit three sixes and took two wickets. He’s a player in fine form with bat and ball. The only risk is he’s moved higher up the order and then doesn’t bowl his overs. You can also get an insane 9/1 on Stonis to hot the most sixes in the match – well worth a punt.

Tip 3 – Betway – Over 18.5 runs in the highest scoring over 5/6

This one caught my eye. In both teams, there are some really explosive players and at some point, that will convert into runs. Here we need one over in the match to have at least 19 runs scored from it.
