Australia vs England Stats and Trends

Australia Trends
- As always Australia heads into the Ashes series in a confident mood. They have just won the World T20 cup and are predicted by most to retain the Ashes with ease.
- The ever-confident Glen McGrath has predicted a 5-0 win for Australia, although he does say it “depends on the result of the first test” – ie if they win that then they will win them all.
- Australias recent from in all formats has been hit and misses, they have been really off in some matches where key players were missing. It is in red-ball cricket where the current team does the best but this will be more of a battle than usual we think.
- The last Ashes series ended in a draw in England meaning Australia retain the urn for 2 more years as they won the previous series.
- After some changing Pat Cummings will captain the side and has confirmed that Starc and Head will start in the first test. This will be a big test of his captaincy skills to get an opening win or the pressure will be on.

England Trends
- England will be buoyed by the news that Ben Stokes has returned to cricket after a 6 month break for personal reasons. He has been playing well in the warm-up matches and will be a key player in this 5 test battle against Australia. Stokes is around 7/2 to be the player of the series for England, just behind Joe Root at 3/1.
- Joe Root has been speaking about requiring a siege mentality for this series. With the bubble they are operating in this is the right way to go about it.
- Australia is the strong favourites to win the first test with England available at odds of around 4/1. Although they are away from home this does seem generous compared to the 20/21 odds on Australia to win.
- There is a full range of betting markets on this match as well as the series including correct score betting and how many tests will be finished inside 4 days.
- The BBC Cricket team have all been having their say on who will win the series and no one has predicted an England win. The best result predicted for them is a 2-2 draw. Former England spinner, Phil Tufnell, has predicted a 3-1 win for Australia – even the English don’t have much hope for their team in this Ashes.

Australia vs England Match Prediction
The betting sites and pundits are all expecting an Australian win here but we do think England has been underestimated for this match and the series. They have a team of world-class players and they can all produce. The return of Ben Stokes is a huge boost to them. We saw in the last Ashes he is capable of carrying the team on his own when needed. He will bring up the players around him and looks in good nick. He is arguably the best all-round cricketer in the world if he is playing at his top level.
Predicted result: England to win over 5 days – take the draw no bet option looking at the long-range weather forecasts.
Predicted score if batting first:
England 390
Australia 325
